Chromosome 3 open reading frame 80 (C3orf80)

Target
C3orf80
Molecular classification
Other, Single-pass membrane protein (predicted)
01

Overview

Chromosome 3 open reading frame 80 (C3orf80) encodes a predicted single-pass membrane protein of 247 amino acids, found mainly at the cell membrane, with enriched expression in the cerebral cortex, esophagus, colon, and ciliated glandular cells of the human fallopian tube[1]. The protein is largely uncharacterized, with no known enzymatic or receptor activity, and its molecular function and involvement in human disease remain unclear. Some studies associate its expression with various cancers and immune system-related tissue responses, including higher expression in multiple sclerosis lesions and as a component of biomarker panels for cancer prognosis and chemotherapy response[1]. C3orf80 appears to be evolutionarily conserved among vertebrates[1][7]. There is currently no evidence that C3orf80 is an established drug target or has known interacting drugs[7][1]. Proposed immune-regulatory or enzymatic functions described for related proteins in some sources may represent confusion with other membrane ecto-enzymes rather than experimentally validated features of C3orf80 itself[3][1].
