Chromosome 5 open reading frame 52 (C5orf52) encodes an uncharacterized protein (A6NGY3). The gene is located on chromosome 5q33.3, encompasses three exons, and produces a 159–amino acid protein (17.9 kDa) with no identifiable transmembrane domains or signal peptides. The protein is predicted to be localized in the cytoplasm and is slightly serine-rich at the N-terminus. Its exact biological function is not known, though it is highly expressed in testis, suggesting a potential specialized role in male reproductive biology (spermatogenesis). There is no evidence of protein–protein interactions, and the protein lacks known disease associations, physiological functions, or drug interactions. C5orf52 appears to be evolutionarily conserved among vertebrates, but no paralogs exist in human or mice. Accordingly, it is not recognized as a therapeutic target and does not fit classical categories such as receptor, enzyme, transporter, or transcription factor.
