Pseudogenes typically arise either by gene duplication or via mRNA retrotransposition, losing essential regulatory elements for protein-coding function. While some pseudogenes are transcribed at low levels and might play rare regulatory roles, the vast majority, including this locus, have no established biological function or therapeutic relevance and are considered genomic "junk" DNA.
