Overview

Chromosome 6 open reading frame 108 pseudogene (C6orf108 pseudogene, ENSG00000227370) is a nonfunctional segment of DNA on human chromosome 6 that resembles a protein-coding gene but has lost its ability to code for a functional protein. Pseudogenes such as C6orf108 typically result from gene duplication or retrotransposition events, and in most cases are not transcribed or translated into proteins. While some pseudogenes can exert regulatory effects or produce noncoding RNAs, there is currently no evidence that C6orf108 pseudogene has any functional role in human biology. This gene is not recognized as a therapeutic target for any disease or drug action, and has no known role in disease or biomarker utility.

03

Biological functions

No known functional protein product; standard biological function is "Other" (reflects non-functionality)Pseudogenes in general may sometimes have regulatory RNA roles, such as serving as microRNA decoys or being transcribed at low levels, but no evidence is available for specific function of C6orf108 pseudogene.
04

Disease associations

Other (no known disease association for C6orf108 pseudogene itself)Pseudogenes broadly have been linked to gene regulation and occasionally implicated in disease contexts, but not C6orf108 pseudogene specifically.
05

Safety considerations

None relevant; as a pseudogene, C6orf108 does not have pharmacological relevance or clinical safety concerns
