Chromosome 7 open reading frame 57 (C7orf57) is an uncharacterized human protein encoded by the C7orf57 gene, found on chromosome 7 (locus 7p12.3)[1][3][6]. It is a protein of unknown function, though sequence analysis indicates the presence of the DUF5524 domain (domain of unknown function)[4]. C7orf57 is expressed in various tissues including the fallopian tubes, testes, lungs, and several brain regions, with highest levels in the reproductive and respiratory tracts and selectively in some brain areas[1][2][5]. Clinical studies have linked C7orf57 expression or variants with diseases such as pancreatic cancer—where it is upregulated following metformin and aspirin treatment—amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), endometriosis, and nasopharyngeal carcinoma[1][2]. However, these associations are generally based on expression correlations or genetic loci, and there is no evidence that C7orf57 itself is a therapeutically targeted protein or a validated biomarker. No interacting drugs or defined mechanisms of action have been reported; its biological role and molecular function remain uncharacterized in the current literature[1][4][7].
