Overview

Chromosome 8 open reading frame 58 (C8orf58) is a protein encoded by the human *C8orf58* gene, which is located on chromosome 8p21.3. It produces at least three protein isoforms via alternative splicing; the longest isoform is 365 amino acids and contains a Domain of Unknown Function (DUF4657). C8orf58 is predicted to localize to the nucleus, and its protein is proline- and arginine-rich, with secondary structure predictions indicating multiple alpha helices and a beta strand. Expression data suggest moderate, constitutive expression in spleen, lung, thymus, prostate, and spinal cord. Bioinformatic predictions suggest potential roles as a chromatin/chromatin-binding or regulatory protein, but no direct functional annotation or biological activity has been experimentally established. The protein is uncharacterized in terms of specific molecular function, interacting drugs, biomarkers, or approved therapeutic targeting. Two protein interactors have been identified (CENPH and metG1) via yeast two-hybrid assays, but the functional significance of these interactions is unclear. There are no known drugs, safety concerns, or biomarkers associated with this target. C8orf58 is not currently considered a therapeutic target, as there is no evidence for druggability or a defined biological or pathological function.
