Target intelligence / Profile preview
Chromosome 8 open reading frame 82 (C8orf82) is a mitochondrial and potentially nuclear protein encoded on human chromosome 8q24, with a length of 216 amino acids and a molecular weight of 23.8 kDa. It contains a conserved domain of unknown function (DUF4505/pfam14956). C8orf82 is ubiquitously expressed in human tissues and shows moderate cytoplasmic and nuclear immunoreactivity. Recent evidence suggests C8orf82 may play roles at the interface of transcriptional regulation, metabolic control, and mitochondrial function. Genome-wide association and systems genetics studies have linked C8orf82 expression to metabolic traits, implicating it in genetic networks that regulate metabolism and potentially disease susceptibility. It is not a characterized therapeutic target, such as a receptor, enzyme, or transporter. No drugs, mechanisms of action, biomarker roles, or specific safety concerns are currently associated with C8orf82. Experimental data indicate it may interact with ETFA (electron transfer flavoprotein subunit alpha), suggesting a role in mitochondrial metabolism. Its precise biological function and disease roles remain incompletely clarified, though data highlight its possible importance in clinical contexts related to mitochondrial function and metabolic disease.
