Chromosome Region Maintenance 1 (CRM1)

Target
CRM1
Molecular classification
Nuclear transport receptor, Other
01

Overview

CRM1, also known as Exportin 1 (XPO1), is the major nuclear export receptor in eukaryotic cells. It mediates the transport of proteins and RNAs from the nucleus to the cytoplasm, a process crucial for cellular homeostasis and gene expression regulation. CRM1 exports proteins with leucine-rich nuclear export signals (NES), ribosomal subunits, U snRNAs, rRNAs, some mRNAs, and other RNPs. Overexpression or mutation of CRM1 is implicated in various cancers, and it is a therapeutic target with inhibitors like selinexor showing promise in cancer treatment.
