Chromosome Region Maintenance Protein 1 (CRM1)

Target
CRM1
Molecular classification
Karyopherin β, Exportin, Nuclear Export Receptor

Overview

Chromosome Region Maintenance Protein 1 (CRM1), also known as Exportin 1 (XPO1), is a highly conserved eukaryotic nuclear export receptor that plays a central role in the transport of proteins and RNAs from the nucleus to the cytoplasm. It mediates the nuclear export of a wide variety of proteins and ribonucleoproteins by recognizing specific amino acid sequences called nuclear export signals (NES) on cargo molecules. Dysregulation or overexpression of CRM1 has been implicated in several cancers, making it an attractive target for cancer therapy.
