Overview

Chromosome transmission fidelity protein 8 homolog (CHTF8) is a protein encoded by the CHTF8 gene in humans. CHTF8 is a component of the Ctf18-replication factor C (RFC) complex, which is required for sister chromatid cohesion and the fidelity of chromosome transmission during cell division. The CTF18-RFC complex participates in the ATP-dependent loading of proliferating cell nuclear antigen (PCNA) onto primed DNA, coordinating DNA replication and repair with chromatid cohesion. CHTF8 is expressed ubiquitously, with evidence of reduced expression in renal and prostate carcinomas. Although implicated in genomic stability and DNA replication, it is not formally validated as a direct therapeutic target in oncology or other disease areas.
