Chromosome X open reading frame 49 (CXorf49) is a protein encoded by the CXorf49 gene located on Xq13.1 of the human X chromosome[1][7][9]. The gene encodes a 514 amino acid protein with a predicted molecular mass of 54.4 kDa. It contains a large domain of unknown function (DUF4641) making up most of the protein’s sequence[1]. The protein is predicted to localize to the nucleus and shows low expression in most tissues but is somewhat higher in connective tissues, testis, and uterus[1]. CXorf49 lacks established functional characterization, has no confirmed protein–protein interactions, and has not been linked to any diseases or pharmacological targets[1][9]. No known drugs or therapeutic agents interact with this protein, and it is not used as a clinical biomarker at current knowledge. CXorf49 is best described as an uncharacterized or poorly characterized protein—sometimes called a "domain of unknown function" (DUF) protein—and, based on current data, is not a standard therapeutic target in biomedical research[1][9].
