Overview

Chromosome X open reading frame 49B (CXorf49B) is a human protein encoded by the CXorf49B gene located on the X chromosome (Xq13.1), with a coding transcript that encodes a 514 amino acid protein of approximately 54.4 kDa. The protein is glycine- and proline-rich, contains a domain of unknown function (DUF4641), and is predicted to localize in the nucleus. Homology is found across mammals, but the protein is absent from fungi, plants, and single-celled organisms. Its function, biological process, and disease relevance remain unknown; there are no reports of drug interactions, biomarker utility, or therapeutic application for CXorf49B. Expression levels are low in most tissues but somewhat higher in testis, uterus, and connective tissue. No protein–protein interactions or disease associations are documented. This locus is considered “uncharacterized,” supported by absence of mechanistic or therapeutic function in scientific databases.
