Chromosome X open reading frame 67 pseudogene

Molecular classification
Pseudogene
01

Overview

Chromosome X open reading frame 67 pseudogene (ENSG00000251112) is a pseudogene on the human X chromosome. Pseudogenes are nonfunctional DNA sequences that originate from duplication or retrotransposition of functional genes but acquire disabling mutations or lose regulatory features, rendering them unable to produce a functional protein product[2][4][6]. While many pseudogenes are transcriptionally silent, some show tissue-specific RNA expression, including on the X chromosome, and can occasionally act as regulatory RNAs or have minor roles in gene regulation, though this does not appear to be the case for this specific entity[1]. Pseudogenes are not considered classical gene targets for therapy and are largely regarded as genomic relics, although a minority in the human genome may acquire new regulatory activities.
