Chymase is a chymotrypsin-like serine protease predominantly found in mast cells. It plays a key role in the conversion of angiotensin I to angiotensin II, tissue remodeling, and inflammation. Due to its involvement in cardiovascular diseases and fibrosis, it is a therapeutic target for developing inhibitors.
Chymase inhibitors block the conversion of angiotensin I to angiotensin II, reducing vasoconstriction and promoting vasodilation. They can also prevent the degradation of extracellular matrix components, reducing fibrosis and inflammation.
