Chymotrypsin-like elastase family member 1 (CELA1) is a serine protease that hydrolyzes peptide bonds in various proteins, including elastin. Unlike other human pancreatic-type elastases, CELA1 is primarily expressed in skin keratinocytes and its role in chronic pancreatitis is under investigation.
