CIAO2A pseudogene 1 (CIAO2AP1, also known as FAM96AP1) is classified as a pseudogene, a DNA sequence that shares high similarity with a protein-coding gene (CIAO2A) but is incapable of encoding a functional protein due to mutations that disrupt its transcription or translation potential[1][3][4]. Pseudogenes like CIAO2AP1 are commonly annotated in genomic databases and generally considered nonfunctional relics of evolutionary gene duplication or retrotransposition events. Although research has shown that some pseudogenes can exert regulatory effects on their parent genes or participate in cellular processes via noncoding RNAs, there is no current evidence linking CIAO2A pseudogene 1 to specific biological functions or disease mechanisms[2][4]. CIAO2AP1 is not considered a therapeutic target and has no known clinical relevance as a disease biomarker or pharmacological target[1][4].
