Overview

CIBAR1 pseudogene 2 (CIBAR1P2; also FAM92A1P2) is a human pseudogene located on chromosome 4 (chr4:183037665-183040119, hg38)[3]. Pseudogenes are genomic sequences similar to known genes but are typically non-coding due to mutations or deletions that prevent normal transcription or translation[4]. CIBAR1P2 is homologous to CIBAR1, a protein-coding gene involved in mitochondrial membrane organization and ciliogenesis[1]; however, CIBAR1P2 itself is not known to encode a functional protein or play a direct role in normal cellular physiology or disease. While the broader class of pseudogenes can sometimes participate in regulatory mechanisms such as miRNA decoying, antisense interactions, or generation of non-coding RNAs with potential cellular impact[4][7], there is no specific evidence to date that CIBAR1P2 has such functions or clinical significance.
