Target intelligence / Profile preview
CIDEC pseudogene 1 (CIDECP1) is classified as a pseudogene, meaning it is a sequence in the human genome that resembles the functional gene CIDEC, but it does not encode an active protein product[6][2][3]. Pseudogenes arise from duplication or retrotransposition of functional genes and typically do not produce functional proteins due to mutations or lack of regulatory elements needed for gene expression[6][3]. The functional CIDEC gene (not the pseudogene) encodes a protein involved in lipid droplet formation, adipocyte apoptosis, and is implicated in metabolic pathways such as insulin sensitivity and lipodystrophy[1][7]. However, CIDECP1 itself lacks evidence for any such biological activity, therapeutic relevance, or drug interactions, and it is not considered a disease gene or therapeutic target[6][2][3]. The presence of the pseudogene CIDECP1 is noted on chromosome 3 in the human genome, but it is not known to play a role in human disease, biomarker development, or serve as a drug target[3][6][2].
