Overview

Cilia- and flagella-associated protein 141 (CFAP141) is a structural protein localized to the axonemal outer junctions of motile cilia and flagella in humans[1][2]. It is part of the microtubule inner proteins (MIPs) group and contains a conserved ELLEn module at its N-terminus. This module facilitates binding between microtubule A and B tubules, enabling the assembly and structural cohesion of the ciliary outer doublet. CFAP141 shares evolutionary and structural homology with CFAP53 and trichoplein (TCHP). It interacts with other MIPs such as CFAP53 and the centrosomal protein NME7 to support ciliary architecture, but there is no current evidence of direct pharmacological targeting, disease biomarker role, or clinical safety concerns related to this protein[1][2].
