Overview
Cilia- and flagella-associated protein 184 (CFAP184) is a coiled-coil domain-containing structural protein that plays a critical role in the assembly and proper function of cilia and flagella. It participates in regulating ciliary beating by connecting the radial spoke 3 (RS3) to the inner dynein arm and the nexin-dynein regulatory complex, contributing to the structural integrity of ciliary axonemes. Mutations in CFAP184 have been linked to cone-rod dystrophy (CRD18) and primary ciliary dyskinesia, implicating CFAP184 in the pathogenesis of ciliopathies and certain inherited retinal disorders. There is currently no evidence that CFAP184 serves as a therapeutic target or interacts directly with approved drugs.
