Overview

Cilia- and flagella-associated protein 73 (CFAP73), also known as coiled-coil domain containing 42B (CCDC42B) and MIA2, is a human protein encoded by the CCDC42B gene located on chromosome 12. The protein contains a coiled-coil domain (DUF4200) and is primarily composed of alpha helices. CFAP73 is predicted to function in the regulation of ciliary and flagellar motility through the assembly and activity of the axonemal inner dynein arm, which is essential for the proper movement of cilia and flagella. Its expression is low in most tissues but has been detected in the testis, implying a possible role in spermatogenesis. The precise biological function in humans remains to be elucidated, and there are no established drugs, biomarkers, or safety concerns associated with this protein as of current knowledge.
