Overview

Cilia and flagella associated protein 95 (CFAP95) is a microtubule inner protein localized to dynein-decorated doublet microtubules (DMTs) in the axoneme of cilia. It is predicted to be required for motile cilia beating and plays a role in the structural integrity and function of flagellated cell appendages. CFAP95 is found in axonemal microtubules and the plasma membrane of ciliated and flagellated cells, influencing processes such as sperm motility and overall maintenance of the ciliary compartment. Mutations in CFAP95 are linked to inherited disorders including spondyloepimetaphyseal dysplasia, Strudwick type, and may be implicated in other ciliopathies and defects in motile or sensory cilia structure and function[1][2][3].
