Overview

Ciliary microtubule inner protein 4 (CIMIP4) is a protein encoded in humans (gene symbol: CIMIP4; previous/secondary symbols: C22orf33, TEX33, EAN57)[6][4]. It belongs to the class of microtubule inner proteins found in the luminal meshwork inside the microtubule cylinder of cilia and flagella, primarily contributing to the structural integrity and stability of these organelles[5]. CIMIP4's strongest gene expression and predicted localization are in the sperm flagellum[6][4]. It is not essential for spermiogenesis or male fertility, and knockout models show no overt phenotype in sperm development[6]. No evidence suggests CIMIP4 plays a direct role in signal transduction, enzymatic activity, or as a druggable therapeutic target. However, mutations or structural changes in ciliary and microtubule inner proteins as a group can contribute to human diseases of microtubule or cilia dysfunction, such as primary ciliary dyskinesia or motility-related disorders[1][5][7]. CIMIP4 does not have known drug interactors or biomarker relevance at present.
