Overview

CROCC pseudogene 1 (CROCCP1) is a transcribed processed pseudogene related to the ciliary rootlet coiled-coil (CROCC) gene (also known as rootletin). Pseudogenes like CROCCP1 are genomic DNA sequences similar to normal genes but are nonfunctional due to sequence disablements (such as frameshifts or early stop codons) and typically do not encode functional proteins[5][6]. Although transcribed pseudogenes may sometimes have regulatory functions—such as modulating the stability of homologous mRNAs or producing noncoding RNAs that influence gene expression—there are no established, specific biological or disease roles for CROCCP1 at this time[5][6]. It should not be considered a therapeutic target or functional receptor.
