CROCC pseudogene 4 (*CROCCP4*) is a genomic sequence classified as a pseudogene related to the *CROCC* (ciliary rootlet coiled-coil, rootletin) gene, which normally encodes a major structural protein for the ciliary rootlet in ciliated cells[1]. CROCCP4 itself is annotated as a pseudogene and is presumed not to encode functional protein. Unlike several functional pseudogenes recently described (such as *UBBP4* or *MAPK6P4*), there is currently no evidence indicating CROCCP4 is transcribed into a functional protein or peptide, nor that it acts as a therapeutic or diagnostic target[2][5]. Pseudogenes broadly may play roles in gene regulation via RNA mechanisms (such as acting as competing endogenous RNAs or ceRNA sponges), but this role is not established for CROCCP4[2][5]. CROCCP4 does not fall under conventional molecular families like receptors, ion channels, enzymes, or transcription factors, and has no documented involvement in human disease, drug interactions, or use as a biomarker. CROCCP4 primarily serves as a non-coding genomic relic with negligible direct clinical or pharmaceutical relevance under current knowledge.
