CIR1 pseudogene 2 (CIR1P2) is classified as a pseudogene on chromosome 4 (locus GC04M114713) and does not encode a functional protein[3][7]. Pseudogenes such as CIR1P2 are generally considered defunct genomic loci, often derived from parental functional genes, but may sometimes be transcribed as non-coding RNAs. Although there is increasing evidence that some pseudogenes can act as competitive endogenous RNAs (ceRNA), interact with microRNAs, or impact gene regulation in cancer and other diseases, there is currently no evidence that CIR1P2 has any clinically or biologically relevant function, nor is it regarded as a therapeutic target[2][6][7]. No drugs, biomarkers, or disease associations specific to CIR1P2 are reported. CIR1P2 should not be confused with CIR1, the protein-coding gene "corepressor interacting with RBPJ, 1," which is distinct in function. As a pseudogene, CIR1P2 does not fit the definition of a traditional therapeutic target, receptor, enzyme, transporter, or transcription factor[3][7].
