CIRBP antisense RNA 1 (CIRBP-AS1) is a long non-coding RNA transcribed from the antisense strand of the CIRBP gene locus on human chromosome 19. While the protein-coding CIRBP gene acts as a cold-inducible RNA-binding protein involved in the regulation of microRNA processing and angiogenesis, CIRBP-AS1 has been shown to modulate CIRBP expression and to influence the expression of specific microRNAs (such as miR-329-3p and miR-495-3p) that are critical for angiogenesis[1]. Knockdown of CIRBP-AS1 can increase angiogenic potential in endothelial cells, apparently by downregulating CIRBP and altering microRNA expression. CIRBP-AS1 appears to function within epitranscriptomic regulatory networks in cancer and vascular biology, but its precise mechanisms and roles remain incompletely characterized, and it is not considered a direct therapeutic target or receptor[1][5][4][7].
