Target intelligence / Profile preview
Circular RNA SLCO1B7 (circSLCO1B7) is a non-coding RNA molecule produced through the back-splicing of the SLCO1B7 gene, which belongs to the solute carrier organic anion transporter family (Zhang et al., 2021, PMID: 34295534). It functions primarily as a competitive endogenous RNA (ceRNA), acting as a molecular sponge for microRNAs such as miR-552-3p to modulate the expression of downstream targets like the protein tyrosine phosphatase PTPN12 (Zhang et al., 2021). In the context of human disease, circSLCO1B7 is notably downregulated in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) tissues, where its low expression correlates with poor patient prognosis and advanced tumor stages (PubMed, 2021). By sequestering oncogenic miRNAs, circSLCO1B7 exerts tumor-suppressive effects, inhibiting the proliferation, migration, and invasion of cancer cells (Journal of Gastrointestinal Oncology, 2021). While no clinical drugs currently target this molecule, it is a significant candidate for RNA-based therapeutic interventions and serves as a potential diagnostic biomarker for liver cancer (NCBI, 2021). The stability of its circular structure makes it more resistant to RNase R degradation compared to linear RNAs, enhancing its potential as a stable biomarker in clinical samples.
Functions as a competitive endogenous RNA (ceRNA) that sponges miR-552-3p, thereby preventing the degradation of PTPN12 mRNA and inhibiting the progression of hepatocellular carcinoma (Zhang et al., 2021).
