Circulating anti-double-stranded DNA (anti-dsDNA) antibodies are a subset of autoantibodies that specifically target double-stranded DNA, a key component of the cell nucleus. These antibodies are classified as anti-nuclear antibodies (ANA) and are most commonly associated with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), an autoimmune disease. Their presence in blood is highly specific for SLE and they play a significant role in both diagnosis and monitoring disease activity, especially lupus nephritis.
