The "citrate synthase pseudogene" (ENSG00000273654) is a genomic DNA sequence that resembles the gene encoding citrate synthase but is nonfunctional; this pseudogene arose through duplication or retrotransposition and has accumulated mutations that prevent it from producing a functional protein[1][3]. Pseudogenes generally lack coding potential due to frameshifts, premature stop codons, or lack of necessary regulatory elements. Most pseudogenes, including this one, do not encode proteins and do not participate in canonical biological functions. Although some pseudogenes can have regulatory effects (e.g., as sources of non-coding RNA or by acting as microRNA decoys), there20 is no evidence that this particular pseudogene has such a role[2][3]. It is not druggable, is not a target for therapeutics, and does not have known involvement in disease, biomarkers, or safety concerns[1][3].
