CKMT2 antisense RNA 1 (CKMT2-AS1)

Target
CKMT2-AS1
Molecular classification
Long non-coding RNA (lncRNA), Antisense RNA

Overview

CKMT2 antisense RNA 1 (CKMT2-AS1) is a long non-coding RNA gene that acts in an antisense fashion and is involved in transcriptional regulation. Located on chromosome 5, this lncRNA is classified as an antisense RNA due to its overlap with the CKMT2 protein-coding gene locus. CKMT2-AS1 is expressed in multiple transcript variants and is associated with cancer, particularly colorectal cancer, through its regulatory roles. Unlike CKMT2, which encodes the mitochondrial creatine kinase 2 enzyme, CKMT2-AS1 is a non-coding RNA and is not a molecular target for drugs or direct therapeutic interventions. The available data support involvement of CKMT2-AS1 in cell regulation processes often dysregulated in cancer, though further functional and mechanistic studies are warranted.
