Beta-lactamase Ambler Class D (OXA)

Target
OXA
Molecular classification
Enzyme, Hydrolase, Beta-lactamase, Ambler Class D Beta-lactamase, Serine Beta-Lactamase
01

Overview

Beta-lactamase Ambler Class D, also known as oxacillinases (OXA), are serine-dependent enzymes that confer resistance to beta-lactam antibiotics. They hydrolyze the beta-lactam ring, rendering these drugs ineffective. Genes encoding these enzymes can be located on chromosomes or plasmids, contributing to multidrug resistance, especially in Gram-negative bacteria like Acinetobacter baumannii and Enterobacteriaceae.
