Overview

The Classical swine fever virus E2 glycoprotein is a major envelope structural protein and the most immunogenic component of the CSFV particle. It is essential for virus attachment to host cells, determines viral virulence, and mediates the primary neutralizing antibody response in infected or vaccinated pigs[4][5]. The E2 protein forms homodimers and is heavily N-glycosylated; these properties influence its function in viral entry and immune evasion[4][5]. E2 is the primary target of both neutralizing antibodies following infection and of CSF vaccines, and knockout or mutation of E2 dramatically alters virulence and immunogenicity[5].
