Overview

CLTA pseudogene 2 (CLTAP2) is a non-functional copy of the Clathrin light chain A (CLTA) gene—a type of pseudogene found in the human genome. Pseudogenes are generally regarded as genomic DNA sequences similar to normal genes but are non-functional; they lack the ability to code for proteins due to disabling mutations or premature stop codons. CLTAP2 does not encode a functional protein, and like other pseudogenes, it may potentially have regulatory roles at the RNA level, such as acting as a decoy for microRNAs or participating in competing endogenous RNA (ceRNA) networks; however, there is no specific functional evidence for this particular pseudogene. Pseudogenes overall are not considered drug targets, and CLTAP2 is not associated with any known drugs, disease pathways, or direct roles in human pathology.

Other names
Clathrin, light chain A pseudogene 2

Mechanism of action

No established mechanism; pseudogene-derived transcripts may act as RNA sponges or competing endogenous RNAs for microRNA binding, in general.

03

Biological functions

Possible regulatory RNA functions (e.g., microRNA decoy, ceRNA activity, gene expression regulation by RNA-level effects)Does not have canonical protein/gene functions
04

Disease associations

Indirect or speculative regulatory association only (general to pseudogenes)No direct evidence for a disease role for CLTA pseudogene 2 itself
