Overview

CLCA4 antisense RNA 1 (CLCA4-AS1) is a long non-coding RNA transcribed antisense to the CLCA4 gene. Its primary molecular function is likely to regulate CLCA4 expression, possibly affecting transcriptional and post-transcriptional control of CLCA4. As CLCA4 acts as a tumor suppressor and plays a role in epithelial differentiation, the regulation by CLCA4-AS1 could have indirect but biologically significant effects on cancer biology. However, specific functions, interaction partners, and therapeutic relevance of CLCA4-AS1 itself remain poorly characterized.

Biological functions

Regulation of gene expression (primarily through regulation of CLCA4 mRNA)
03

Disease associations

Evidence suggests CLCA4-AS1 may be involved in cancer, primarily via modulation of CLCA4 expression, which has roles in cancer progression, EMT (epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition), and cell differentiation. Specific direct disease roles for CLCA4-AS1 itself are not well established independently.
