CLCN7 antisense RNA 1 (CLCN7-AS1) is a long non-coding antisense RNA transcribed from the genomic region opposite the CLCN7 (Chloride voltage-gated channel 7) gene. Like many lncRNA antisense transcripts, CLCN7-AS1 is believed to regulate the expression of its sense gene (CLCN7) either via direct RNA-RNA interaction, by influencing chromatin status, or by interacting with protein complexes; these activities can occur in cis or trans depending on the lncRNA and cell type[3][6]. Although other antisense lncRNAs are known to modulate disease-relevant pathways and gene expression, specific experimental evidence about the molecular function or disease involvement of CLCN7-AS1 itself is lacking. Note: Most results and deeper disease and functional information focus on the CLCN7 protein itself, a validated transporter associated with osteopetrosis and lysosomal biology[1][2][4][5][7]. CLCN7-AS1, as an lncRNA, is not a typical or direct therapeutic target, and no drugs or biomarker roles are currently known.
