Overview

Cleavage and polyadenylation specificity factor subunit 2 (CPSF2) is a protein-coding gene that encodes a key subunit of the CPSF complex, which is essential for pre-mRNA 3' end processing and polyadenylation in eukaryotic cells[1][4]. CPSF2 (often called CPSF100 by molecular weight) bridges the interaction between the mammalian cleavage factor (mCF) and the mammalian polyadenylation specificity factor (mPSF) subcomplexes, contributing to their structural stability and flexibility[1][3]. As part of the larger CPSF complex, CPSF2 indirectly supports proper mRNA maturation and gene expression regulation but is not directly responsible for catalysis or sequence recognition; these functions are attributed to other CPSF subunits such as CPSF160, CPSF73, WDR33, and CPSF30[3]. Deficiency or mutation in CPSF2 can negatively impact CPSF complex assembly and thereby mRNA processing[1]. There is no current evidence that CPSF2 serves as a direct therapeutic target, disease biomarker, or safety concern in drug development.
