CLIC1 pseudogene 3 (CLIC1P3) is a non-coding genomic element classified as a pseudogene; it shares sequence similarity with the chloride intracellular channel 1 (CLIC1) gene but does not produce a functional protein. Pseudogenes like CLIC1P3 generally arise from gene duplication or retrotransposition and lack capability for normal protein expression due to disabling mutations or incomplete sequence[3][7]. There is no evidence in the biomedical literature or gene databases that CLIC1P3 has an independent biological function, implication in disease, or role as a drug target. The functional protein, CLIC1 (Chloride intracellular channel protein 1), is involved in cellular chloride ion transport and disease including various cancers and inflammation, but CLIC1P3 does not encode this protein[3][6]. If information about the functional chloride channel protein is desired, the correct target is "Chloride intracellular channel 1" (CLIC1), not CLIC1P3[1][3].
