01

Overview

Clostridioides difficile toxin B (TcdB) is a major cytotoxin produced by the bacterium Clostridioides difficile. It is a potent inflammatory enterotoxin that causes epithelial cell damage, increased mucosal permeability, and acute tissue inflammation. TcdB acts by binding to host cell receptors, entering cells via endocytosis, and ultimately glucosylating Rho family GTPases, leading to actin cytoskeleton breakdown and cell death. It is a key virulence factor in C. difficile infections.
