Overview

Clostridium difficile toxin B (TcdB) is a major cytotoxin produced by Clostridioides difficile. It is a potent inflammatory enterotoxin that damages intestinal epithelial cells, increases mucosal permeability, stimulates interleukin-8 synthesis, and triggers acute inflammatory responses. TcdB acts by glucosylation and inactivation of Rho GTPases, leading to cell rounding, loss of barrier function, apoptosis or necrosis. Neutralizing antibodies like bezlotoxumab are used therapeutically to block TcdB activity.
