Cluster of Differentiation 3 antigen - Epsilon Chain (CD3e)

Target
CD3e
Molecular classification
Immunoglobulin superfamily, Receptor
01

Overview

CD3 epsilon (CD3e) is a polypeptide subunit of the T-cell receptor (TCR)-CD3 complex, which is essential for T-cell development and function. It plays a crucial role in signal transduction upon antigen recognition and is required for proper thymocyte maturation. Defects in CD3E can lead to severe immunodeficiency. The CD3ε chain forms heterodimers with both CD3γ and CD3δ within the complex and participates in assembly of the receptor complex. Upon antigen recognition by the TCR, activation signals are transduced into the cell via ITAMs present in all cytoplasmic domains of the CD3 chains, including ε.
