Cluster of Differentiation 5 (CD5)

Target
CD5
Molecular classification
Scavenger Receptor Cysteine-Rich Superfamily, Cell surface glycoprotein, Receptor
01

Overview

CD5 is a lymphoid-specific cell surface glycoprotein and a member of the scavenger receptor cysteine-rich (SRCR) superfamily. Primarily expressed on mature T cells and a subset of B cells (B-1a), it functions as a negative regulator of antigen receptor signaling, playing a crucial role in immune tolerance and T/B cell development and activation. While no universally confirmed ligand exists, CD72 and homophilic binding are potential interactions. It has clinical relevance as a marker for T cells and in diseases involving immune dysregulation.
