Overview

Clusterin-associated protein 1 (CLUAP1) is a protein required for cilia biogenesis and is a key part of the intraflagellar transport complex B (IFT-B), essential for assembly and maintenance of primary cilia. It also acts as an important regulator of hedgehog signaling, which is critical for development. Mutations in CLUAP1 are associated with ciliopathies, including Leber plus disease and Bardet-Biedl syndrome, and can have broader impacts on organelle function and development. CLUAP1 participates in protein binding within the ciliary tip and cell projections, with tissue expression in various organs, notably those relying on cilia for function.
