CNGB3 antisense RNA 1 (CNGB3-AS1) is annotated as an antisense RNA transcript at the CNGB3 locus according to NCBI Gene. Antisense RNAs are typically non-coding and may regulate the expression of neighboring genes; however, there is no evidence in the published literature that CNGB3-AS1 has regulatory, functional, or disease-related significance. There are no reports of its involvement in human disease, cell signaling, or drug actions. As of the current literature and database status, CNGB3-AS1 should not be considered a therapeutic target or biomarker. The confusion may stem from the well-studied CNGB3 gene (Cyclic nucleotide-gated channel beta 3 subunit), which encodes a protein involved in phototransduction in cone cells and is implicated in genetic vision disorders. However, CNGB3-AS1 is a separate, poorly characterized transcript and is not equivalent to, or substitutable for, CNGB3 in any therapeutic context.
