Overview

CNTFR antisense RNA 1 (CNTFR-AS1) is a long non-coding RNA gene transcribed from the DNA opposite to the ciliary neurotrophic factor receptor (CNTFR) locus. While CNTFR is a classical cytokine receptor involved in neurotrophic signaling, CNTFR-AS1 itself does not encode a protein but appears to participate in gene regulatory networks, potentially by modulating CNTFR expression or interacting with other molecular partners[10][4]. A broad array of molecular associations has been described in bioinformatic data, but direct mechanistic and functional roles for CNTFR-AS1 remain largely uncharacterized. Key point: CNTFR-AS1 is not a receptor, enzyme, or conventional therapeutic target, but rather a regulatory non-coding RNA, likely with gene expression-modulatory functions, and is not known to be directly druggable[10][4].
