Coagulation cascade proteins are a group of specialized plasma proteins that play a central role in the process of blood coagulation (clot formation). These proteins circulate in the blood primarily as inactive precursors called zymogens. Upon vascular injury, they are sequentially activated through proteolytic cleavage in a tightly regulated cascade, ultimately leading to the formation of a stable fibrin clot that stops bleeding.
