The coagulation factor VIIa (FVIIa) receptor complex refers to the molecular assembly formed when activated coagulation factor VII (FVIIa) binds to tissue factor (TF). This complex is the principal initiator of the extrinsic pathway of blood coagulation and plays a critical role in hemostasis. The TF:FVIIa complex triggers the coagulation cascade by activating factors IX and X, leading to thrombin generation and fibrin clot formation. Recombinant human coagulation Factor VIIA (rFVIIA) is used clinically for treating bleeding episodes in hemophilia patients with inhibitors and acts primarily through this complex formation, but can also promote hemostasis via alternative mechanisms.
Binds to tissue factor to activate coagulation factors IX and X, promoting thrombin generation and fibrin clot formation. At high doses, can act independently of tissue factor by binding to phosphatidylserine-rich membranes.
