Coagulation factor X, also known as Stuart factor, is a vitamin K-dependent serine endopeptidase synthesized in the liver. Upon activation by either the intrinsic (FVIIIa-FIXa complex) or extrinsic (TF-FVIIa complex) pathways, it becomes activated factor X (FXa), a central enzyme in the coagulation cascade. FXa catalyzes the conversion of prothrombin to thrombin within the prothrombinase complex, which is critical for fibrin formation and stable clot development. Beyond coagulation, recent studies highlight roles in inflammation/fibrosis through PAR signaling pathways.
