Overview
Coagulation factor XIII (FXIII), also known as fibrin stabilizing factor, is a plasma protein and the final enzyme in the blood coagulation cascade. It plays a critical role in stabilizing blood clots by crosslinking fibrin molecules, thereby increasing clot strength and resistance to premature breakdown (fibrinolysis). Deficiency of factor XIII leads to a rare bleeding disorder characterized by poor clot stability. Treatment involves replacement therapy with purified or recombinant FXIII concentrates.
