Coatomer subunit gamma-1 (COPG1) is a protein coding gene encoding a subunit of the COPI coatomer complex, a cytosolic structure that binds to dilysine motifs and mediates biosynthetic transport from the ER to the Golgi and retrograde transport from the Golgi to ER. COPG1 is required for budding of vesicles from Golgi membranes, for Golgi structural integrity, and for the endocytic recycling of LDL receptors. It regulates lipid storage and homeostasis by controlling the association of lipid droplet proteins. COPG1 mutations are implicated in rare diseases such as immunodeficiency and, via disruption of Golgi trafficking, may contribute to carcinogenesis in cancers like mesothelioma[1][2][3][5].
